Each instrument is shaped, adjusted and voiced by hand. The aim is a guitar that feels alive when you play it.

Acoustic Guitars
Built from aged, air dried and quarter sawn timber that is cut, milled and thicknessed on site! Each guitar is a one of a kind artwork to be loved and played for years to come!
Ukuleles
Built the same way as our guitars, with love and a passion for ukulele as it was where it all started for NR Strings. Wanting to have the best ukulele around!
Lever Harps
Crafted from the best sourced timbers around. Built for tone, built for beautiful sound, each harp is made to be loved and passed on for as it ages it becomes ever more exquisite!

Our Story
NR Strings started with small handmade instruments, local markets and a simple idea: build pieces with character, not a factory photocopy.
That same idea still guides the work. Some builds are traditional. Some are experimental. All are made to be played, handled and heard.
Sporting hand rubbed finishes not thick plastic, all the craftsmanship can be seen and appreciated for all its hard work.

The Matilda 'Gumnut' Guitar
A guitar that says Australia to all who see, play and hear it. Made with Historic Tasmanian Huon Pine and Tasmanian Myrtle, AAA western red Cedar bracing and a myrtle fretboard. Wilkinson Machine heads.
It has a sweet brightness to it that's unmatched to any you've played before. as special as Australia itself a true one of a kind!
Elena "the dancer"
A beautiful Spanish Hybrid, a customized Sydney Blue gum fret board width for those more familiar with steel string fret board widths. A heart warming thumping Hauser Bass and floor stamping flamenco guitar made from AAA Cedar, Historic Huon Pine sides and Tasmanian Myrtle back. Elena is a beautiful guitar to all and ready to play and dance for you and all who hear!
'The Traveler'
A custom build to be taken anywhere from daily adventures to holidays. Specially built to have an adult hand feel but small enough to carry wherever you may go. A personal Favourite!
Beautiful sweet and bright tones from AAA cedar top and Tassie Myrtle back with Huon Pine sides, a gorgeous West Aus Jarrah Fret board and Silver Wattle trim.
Pinocchio "El Troubadour"
Inspired by Carlo Collodi's Pinocchio, this travel sized Spanish guitar sports an adult sized neck for comfort and fast play with a beautiful Ramirez style Soundboard on AAA Cedar and handcrafted rosette. QLD Silky Oak sides and NG Rosewood back.
This cheeky little adventurer is ready to inspire your next piece of flamenco music and warm the hearts of those around you just as Pinocchio has for over a century!

At NR Strings we understand that true handmade isn't for everyone but love that each piece that is crafted has been specially selected from scratch, through every piece of wood right down to how it feels in your hand. The sound is real and irreplaceable.
Whats so special about NR Strings?
NR Strings instruments are built the way I want to play them - responsive, honest and alive with a soul of its very own.
Every piece is handled from raw timber to final setup. I focus on feel in the hands, the way the top responds, the balance of the voice, and if the instrument makes you want to keep Playing and cherish it. If it does not feel or sound right, it does not leave the bench.
Each instrument is shaped, adjusted and voiced by hand. The aim is a guitar that feels alive when you play it.
I offer lifetime care for my builds. To see an instrument that I built which has been played and shared in someone's life return to the workshop is like having an old friend coming to visit once again and with that I give peace of mind that each instrument will always be treated with the same love and respect that it had on its first day that it was played.
I also must say that respect must be shared between the player as well. I cannot accept Misused or poorly cared for pieces as part of the warranty. My instruments are living pieces of art and should be treated as such.
I will do what I can to help but within reason.
Its best for your instrument to be kept out of direct sunlight when not being played and for steel stringed instruments a bit of string lube goes a long way. light bumps and scratches are all part of a Harp, Ukulele or guitars journey and character, it'll still play beautifully for you. As it ages it will develop even more personality and wonderful sound that cannot be matched by stock off the factory line.
Be sure to monitor your instrument during high heat or cold as temperature shifts can be unfriendly to natural wood. Keep on top of it and it'll thank you for it!
